The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has initiated a rulemaking process that could eventually result in the adoption of a mandatory safety standard for e-bikes. Parties wishing to submit input as part of this process may do so through 14 May.
LEVA-EU (the European trade association for light electric vehicles) recently met with EU e-bike companies to discuss the problems they are facing as a result of EU trade defence measures currently enforced against e-bikes and e-bike components being imported from the Chinese mainland. These measures are set to expire early next year. As such, the European Commission (Commission) will likely review whether to renew or extend these measures. In response, LEVA-EU has set out to support EU e-bike companies who, the trade association claims, are suffering from the effects of these trade defence measures, ranging from fines to prison sentences.
