A new Implementing Regulation has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union under Directive 2009/125/EC establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products. In particular, this most recent Implementing Regulation sets ecodesign requirements specifically for fans, including fans integrated into other products.
Two U.S. lawmakers are urging U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to immediately add mainland Chinese battery manufacturer and tech company Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited to the U.S. Department of Defense’s list of Chinese Military Companies (1260H list), which currently includes 73 entities.
The European Commission (the Commission) has recently published an initiative to review the Ecodesign Regulation which covers the ecodesign requirements for air heating products, cooling products, high temperature process chillers and fan coil units. The feedback period, otherwise known as a ‘call for evidence’, will run until 31 August 2024 (midnight Brussels time).
On 19 July 2024, the European Commission issued guidelines clarifying how suppliers and retailers should display energy label classes in visual advertising and promotional materials for energy-labelled products. This follows an October 2023 European Court of Justice ruling related to the energy labelling of ovens and range hoods. The ruling also impacts other products.
In a joint letter published on 9 July 2024, Brussels-based industry associations Cefic, Eurelectric, SolarPower Europe and WindEurope expressed their disappointment with the recently proposed Commission Delegated Regulation (the proposed CDR). The proposed CDR, once adopted, will supplement the EU’s new batteries Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 of the European Parliament and of the Council – the EUBR) by establishing the methodology for the calculation and verification of the carbon footprint of electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
